Thistle, Flower of Scotland – such an iconic emblem of Scotland but why is the thistle our national emblem?

– the story goes that some Scottish soldiers were resting overnight in their camp in the wilds when a raiding party was preparing to make an attack on them.

Fortunately for the Scottish soldiers the raiders stood on some thistles in their bare feet, let off an almighty roar, woke up the Scots who were able to fight off the attack.

... and according to folklore that is why the thistle is our national emblem.
